In case you didn’t know this, the Goonies was filmed in Astoria, and I had a chance to visit Mikey’s house. The house of course has gone through some major upkeep and we met the owners briefly who were out doing some lawn maintenance and they are totally welcome to the visitors that want to visit the house were it all started.
The whole little town of Astoria is quite amazing and doesn’t play off of the Goonies hype, although at every souvenir shop, you can get some type of Goonies shirt or magnet, and the younger art scene seemed to have Goonies based shows. Astoria is nestled along the Columbia River and makes a beautiful setting with restaurants on water, gigantic bridges that cross over to Washington state and fishing boats docked at ancient piers.
